We are the Youth Initiative for Climate Action - Sierra Leone (YICA-SL), a dynamic and youth-led non-profit organisation dedicated to addressing climate change and environmental issues in Sierra Leone. Founded in 2021, YICA-SL envisions a sustainable and resilient future where young people are actively engaged in climate action, environmental protection, and community development.
We are 100% youth-led, with all decision-makers under 35, working primarily with young people aged 15-35. We bridge the gap between community-level environmental action and national policy through education, advocacy, community action and policy engagement.
To empower and mobilise young people in Sierra Leone to become effective advocates, leaders, and changemakers in the fight against climate change and its impacts. Our work involves:
A sustainable and resilient Sierra Leone where young people lead climate action, environmental protection, and community development — ensuring that no community is left behind in the transition to a greener future.
We work at the intersection of grassroots action and national policy. Everything we do is designed to be youth-led, community-owned, and evidence-based:
Young people are not just participants but leaders. We trust youth to design, deliver and evaluate climate solutions.
We prioritise the voices of young women, people with disabilities, and marginalised communities in all our work.
We are transparent with our communities, partners and funders about how resources are used and what results are achieved.
Climate action requires collective effort. We build partnerships across sectors, borders and generations.
Whether you want to volunteer, partner or join a cohort, there's a role for you in building a more resilient Sierra Leone.
