The Young Women Climate Mentorship Programme (YWCMP) creates a structured pathway for emerging women leaders to develop the knowledge, networks and resources they need to drive change in their communities.
Recognising that young women are disproportionately affected by climate change yet consistently underrepresented in decision-making spaces, the programme equips participants to move from idea to implementation.
Hands-on training in project design, proposal writing, budget management and community engagement.
Each participant is paired with an experienced climate professional for ongoing guidance and feedback.
Structured group work builds a supportive community of practice and shared problem-solving.
Seed funding enables mentees to move from planning to delivering their own community climate projects.
YICA-SL successfully completed the first YWCMP cohort, organising young women into four project groups, each developing a community-focused climate project from concept through to implementation — supported by mini-grants and a three-month delivery phase.
Following the success of the first cohort, YICA-SL is launching a second cohort while continuing to support first-cohort mentees — aiming to reach 30+ young women through the programme.
